This is my first entry to ABC Wednesday.
This photo shows the kitchen of the Miller house in the ghost town of Bodie, CA. The town started due to the a gold rush in the 1850's. By 1915, it was pretty much abandoned.
This kitchen still contains many items that the owners left behind.

A dream.
amazing...great photo of a great subject...
Welcome to ABC Wednesday!!! Great post!!!!
Phenomenal composition! Love the monochromatic aspect. It sets the mood perfectly.
How did you get that effect Russ? ... if you don't mind giving away any secrets that is! I absolutely love that!
Hi!
Awesome "L" post!! Love the subtle colors! Have a great day!!

Thanks everyone!
Ms Toast Burner -- 1st off, I use Photoshop Elements. I took my color image and converted it a decent, dramatic B&W (that was a number of steps in itself).
After that, I copied the original background layer and made it the top layer. I changed that layer's blend mode to color, and then adjusted the opacity down until the color was just barely perceptible. I worked on a number of monochrome, duotone, etc effects to get the feeling of age. To me, this captured it the best...
Click here to see the original, unmodified photo. While somewhat interesting, it *feels* too cheery to me.
Thanks for that, Russ. I am going to give that a whirl.
I agree, the original, though still a great photo, is too cheery for the subject matter. imo.
Exceptional photo!
Excellent! I've often wondered why we don't make better use of the places left behind. Lovely photo!
What an evocative photo! I agree with you, the watered down colour tint is much more in keeping with the subject than the straightforward version.
On behalf of the team, thanks for taking part in ABC Wednesday this week! :)
Wow! I like it. The floor to me is so very interesting.
Beautiful photo! (In fact, I am loving all of your photos and will be back for more..)
I think the color in the original is gorgeous (that green!), but I have to agree, the way you've processed it really sets a powerful mood. Thanks for sharing how you did it :)
What a great shot (even in colour), but I have to agree with everyone else, the black and white has its own moodiness and makes it feel as if it was taken around the time those people left everything behind. Well done!
I love the feeling that this evokes. :) It's very peaceful to me and the colors are what really pull it all together. Beautifully done.
reminds me of the empty feeling I've had sometimes when something was over...a place where the life was no longer there...not altogether bad, just gone.
