Arrested Decay

Here's another image from the ghost town of Bodie, California. This is the backside of the Boone Store and Warehouse. It still shelves many items. Including, according to the bodie.com site, several original Edison light bulbs that are and have been continuously burning for several years.

Bodie is a very interesting place to visit. If you ever find yourself in the eastern sierras, it would be well worth your time to stop at Bodie.

I pressed send too quickly...

I have been meaning to say that I appreciate your added info about the places you photograph, Russ. I've built up a nice set of links which may come in handy for future road trips. Thanks!

Brilliant shot. It is reminiscent (for me) of a scene from Wizard of Oz before the hurricane struck. Great shot.

Come over and see mine - if you don't go through Mr. Linky to get to my blog then please scroll down when you get there for the sepia shot. Thanks.

What is so great about the top photo is not just one thing: the fair=weather clouds, the functional beauty of the shape and the shadows from the bucket on the side. Nice!

Spectacular image. Everything about it is wonderful.

We drove to Bodie (hwy 395 road trip)but was unable to proceed because it was snowing and our car was not 4wd too risky to go down, maybe next time in the summertime.

Do you have any major influences when it comes to photography... Ansel Adams?

This is a another wonderful image Russ.

sounds like a great place, I love the perspective you've taken to shoot the barn. That looks like a "bucket skeleton", I'm not sure what it is. Hope you can stop by to see my sepia scene Thanks!

Very very moody. I'm waiting for a twister to touch down.

Russ, love these shots of the West so much. I live in such an urban environment, I'm glad when I can see big sky and big landscape! Thanks for participating in Sepia Scenes! :)

Thanks every one!

ms toast burner - I think it would be fun to write a guide book. I often don't know what to say about a subject. This is good practice for that.

Manz - wow, I not really thought about that before. Definitely Ansel Adam. His work is amazing. I'd include Stephen Johnson, John Fielder, David Muench. Recently, I've been closely following Jim Talkington's photo a day blog - I'm finding it very inspiring...
