How do you get to Carnegie Hall?

Here's a shot of my brother practicing his guitar. I think I surprised him, because he jumped when the flash went off. He also makes some pretty tasty beer - it's hard to capture that because I'm too busy drinking it!

For other great monochromes, use your keyboard and play Monochrome Maniacs.

Russ, this is a really interesing scene - always great when you can get a candid shot. Now I have to go to the store and get some beer!

Looks like an acoustic...has he been playing long? I notice that there is a chord book in front of him.

A very subtle flash you have. A very fine image indeed.

Very moody and wonderfully lit mixed with shadows in all the right places. And I think I see a kokopelli on a vase behind the music books. hehe!

Wonderful candid monochrome!

No wonder he jumped, he appears so absorbed in the guitar. Great photo

I love the lighting in this shot, whether intentional or not. The light just seems to be focused on his face and the sheet of music fading into the darker edges. Really fantastic.

Thanks everyone. This was taken using a borrowed flash. I've never used a 'real' one before, and I spent a couple of days just playing with it. I had the flash pointed at the ceiling in this case.

Bryan - I believe it is acoustic. He's self-trained and started 3-4 yrs ago?

Lisa - Good eye - it is a kokopelli. It's on a gourd that mother carved.
