Blue Monday: Abstract

This is my first post for Blue Monday. This abstract shot is of a very concrete (pun intended) object - the Folsom American River Bridge. While I was living near Folsom, CA last year, this bridge was the subject of intense photographic study. I had just obtained a near new DSLR. To learn the camera I decided to study this bridge from as many positions, lighting conditions and weather as possible. Taking on such a study is a great way to not only learn the camera, but also to learn to "see" differently and grease the creative wheels.

Happy Blue Monday!

Hi, Russ

Welcome to Blue Monday. What a great first entry! I love this.

I have a rinky-dink camera (hoping to invest in a better one this summer) but I love experimenting with different types of framing and composition, as well as the natural light and how it affects the outcome. One of my favorite subjects is the underside of a local bridge.

Glad you'eve joined in this one. There are several cool memes on people's sidebars that you may want to check out also.

Russ, what a wonderful photograph! I love the play of the shapes, shadows, and colors against that blue sky! Great job! So glad you joined us for Blue Monday...

Interesting. I'm not one to take abstract photos unless by accident (slipping, tripping, somebody turning my focus ring), but I do enjoy seeing what others come up with.

Thanks everyone! I admit that I felt some trepidation submitting this, as a friend called it, weird photo.

Welcome; I'm very late w/ my Blue Monday visits! I think this is a very cool picture. I am no photographer and I am always so impressed with what you folks can do. A study is a great idea for seeing something in so many lights and ways.
