This photo was taken the same time and place as the Classic View shot. I spend a lot of time in Garden of the Gods. I love finding different perspectives and seeing new things.

Oh what glorious red rock.
It's really amazing and mind boggling how trees grow on rocks like this. There's plenty of them in Yosemite growing in granite/rocks.
The tenacity of Nature...
Your title is bang-on. If this isn't tenacity, I don't know what is.
Fantastic photo too!
It is amazing where one can flourish, it may be a lonely and barren spot, but look at that view!
Thanks for the visit and the comment, Russ. This is a beautiful shot. Love the colours, the composition, the stark beauty.
You would love our Australian landscapes, too.
Is that snow in the rock crevasses? I tried to enlarge but couldn't. Beautiful perspective. I, too, love Garden of the Gods - it's a great place to bike.
What a colour, like Mars! Garden of Gods sounds like a most spectacular place.
Russ : Now that's what I call an astonishingly well composed image. Fantastic perspective and the colors, contrast is amazing.
Thanks everyone!
Garden of the Gods is indeed very spectacular. As Barb says, its a great place to bike. Also, hiking, running and horseback riding.
I would love to get to Australia - it is high on my list.
Barb - I don't know if you tried, but if you click on the picture, it should bring the photo up in SmugMug. From there you can choose the size that you'd like to view (including, original size).
I love those red rocks! I haven't been there in years.
What a beautiful photograph! I came over from authorblog. Congrats on the Post of the Day!
Absolutely stunning! Had the privilege of living and teaching just outside Sedona, Arizona for one year...I love the red rock country...Congrats on your mention in POTD!
The posts tell me that you've hit a resonant chord. That's testimony enough!
I'd consider 'printing' by increasing the contrast in the red rocks, which are somewhat flat. In this pic, I'm really happy with the unusual position of the focal point. But on looking carefully, I'd be careful about the diagonal line through the rock. It leads EXACTLY to the lower left corner which violates one of my personal 'rules of composition.'
Russ, I think you're doing a great job here. You have a real eye for the image. I'm hoping the criticism proves helpful and not petty. I'm hoping you spend some time commenting on my pics.
Thanks for the feedback Tim. This is one of those photos that I plan on retaking. Or, reworking.
In the last 10months, I've learned a lot. A lot of my earlier shot tend to be fairly low on contrast.
I agree with you about the line leading out, but, that crop removed a lot of distracting elements. Sometimes it a trade off yeah? I would like to reshoot it from some different angles to see if I could change that...
