I was at a friend's place the other night. Looking out the back, I saw a great sunset happening over the distant Pikes Peak. Luckily I tend to keep my camera with me, and took a few shots. The sky looked pretty impressive with this mass of dark clouds hanging over the mountain with a narrow band of color at the bottom.

What a wonderful capture! The color is so delicate, but the scene so powerful.
My friends own a house in Colorado and I asked them if I could tag along next time they go. They've been talking about all the great mountains and the wonderful vista they have from their living room alone.
That sky looks very ominous! Did it snow?
Great photo, as usual!
Beautiful sky capture!!!!
I'm always on the lookout for interesting lighting and that is usually at sunrise and sunset. Great post.
Wow. Simply impressive shot.
Nice shot of the Peak. That must be from around Monument? I think we're in for some more snow tomorrow - keep your camera ready.
This is wonderful photo, great work!
Thanks everyone. Its a good lesson on why its good to keep your camera with you.
Photo cache -- if you indeed visit Colorado, check out the guide book "John Fielder's Best of Colorado". It's a great guide created by one of Colorado's best know photographers. The book emphasizes great places for photography.
Mike - Yes, I was in Monument. That event made me realize that I need to head east if I want sunset shots here. I live near Garden of the Gods. The mountains usually get in the way of any sunsets. No snow yet today!
Now that's what I call a good neighborhood with views like that!
Very impressive indeed! Glad you had the camera. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for the visit to my blog also.
Fantastic! This shot just inspires reverence, I swear. Magnificent scene... just magnificent.
Fantabulous shot!!! I love this photo - So gorgeous!
I just love the colors!!! For a photographer, there is no bad weather - but amazing images at the sky :)
Nice one Russ.
Oh yes, keep your camera with you when you step foot out your front or back door.
