I've been "stalking" this tree for awhile. It lives in Ute Valley Park near where I live. I've photographed the tree many times in different weather and lighting conditions. I'm still waiting for the perfect combination of lighting (sunrise) and weather (partial clouds) and/or the moon. This combination is fairly rare. I got the sunrise on this one, but no clouds.
There are a few other scenes that I repeatedly shoot. In my mind's eye, I can see an image. But, I've been unable to fulfill that image with the camera. Yet...
Keep shooting!
Be sure to visit Thursday Challenge where the theme to day is "TREES" (Leaves, Branches, Bush, Forest, Pinecone, Seeds,...)

Beautiful! Tree is a standout against the soft morning sky...I like the light and shadows playing in this shot...though I couldn't enlarge your photo, it looks like much detail is captured in the rocks and the bark...
The picture is peaceful. I know what you mean about going back and wanting the light and sky to be a certain way. This picture has its own atmospheric qualities that are nice. One day you will get that spectacular look you're waiting for. Sometimes Colorado really turns on the elements just rigth (I used to live in Palisade and I remember some of those days).
beautiful and the sky is also very beautiful!
I will not blame you for getting passionate about this tree. It's a good subject to focus on and yes, it will be interesting to see how it looks in different mood of weather conditions. That would be challenging.
Hi Russ, you have a very nice blog here. Your pictures are great! You've captured some pretty awesome images.
Oh, c'mon Russ... photoshop a wee moon in there. I won't tell anyone. ;-)
Great photo... one day you'll catch the one.
This is a perfect photo op! The lighting is lovely and the coloring divine. I wonder if you've captured it in early winter with a soft dusting of snow on it..(if it snows there, that is!)
Thanks everyone!
