Opportunity

Yesterday was the first chance for me to play with the camera in more than a week. So, I was disappointed when my truck was totally dead and would not start. After getting a jump start, I drove the ungrateful machine to my mechanic so he could find the issue with the electrical system. On the way there, I saw a huge field of wildflowers. As I was anticipating a long wait at the garage, so I left my camera at home. The overcast skies would have been perfect for shots of flowers. Anyway, 5 hours later, I was parked on the side of the road by this field. Luckily the sky stayed overcast. I'm sure that drivers along Austin Bluffs Blvd were wondering why that fool was rolling around on the ground and contorting himself.

I'm also sure that most of the drivers took no notice of me, and were oblivious to the field of wildflowers.

I'm not very good at photos like this. So, any suggestions for improving the composition would be greatly appreciated!

Well I think it's perfectly beautiful as it is. Mechanics, eh? ;-)

It looks pretty good to me. The oranges and yellows of the foreground flowers stand out well against the purples and greens of the background while retaining a soft yet sharp look. I may have composed the shot tighter to cut out the inverted petals on the right and to have less open foreground space on the left. The hill/tree/sky background is a little distracting, but also provides some contrast.

I actually prefer having sunlight with flower pictures... Shadow effects, stronger and warmer colors, and sometimes a nice bokeh.

Love the contrasting colors. For me I take shots from all angles and varying degrees of zoom because sometimes you never know which will come out the best til you download and see the bigger picture, which is why I have two 4gb cards;)

That's a wonderful shot! BTW, I take my camera everywhere--especially when I anticipate a long wait!

The flowers are lovely! Looks like they waited for you to take their photo.

We pay a fortune for those orange flowere (I think they are called Galardias here) to plant in our gardens so you are luck to have them as wild flowers. By the way the photo is great.

I really don't think you need any suggestions or improvements! The photo is gorgeous, both in colors, angle and composition!

Thanks everyone!

Bryan - good suggestion, I'll see if I can crop it to see what it I can do it.

Jules - I took lots of shots also. But, if you don't get the composition right then, well...

I just have a hard time seeing a composition in such a chaotic environment.

You really stress the flowers in this photo. If this is not good...how about my photos...c",)...I am just kidding. For me, the light that struck the flowers are balance...it made the flowers very fresh...
