I found these little birds at the Bolsa Chica Ecological Preserve near Long Beach, CA. I've no idea what kind there are. If anybody can tell, please let me know.
What I like about this image is how the birds seem to glow in the light of the setting sun. The angle of the sun was perfect to illuminate the birds without lighting the ground; a good example of catching the moment. A little earlier, and the foreground would be lighted, a little latter, and the birds would be in the shadow. I was lucky to stumble upon this scene.
Be sure to check out other Camera Critters!.

No idea what kind of birds. But it sure is an excellent capture Russ. You were at the right place at the right time. Love when that happens.
Hi Russ, I used to bird Bolsa Chica when I lived out there. These are going to be Semipalmated Sandpipers, Least Sandpipers and Western Sandpipers. They are commonly found in mixed flocks. You can stop by SMU and click the Shorbirds links to see these.
They looked a bit like Curlew to me but Steve's probably right.
wow! that's so beautiful!
At first I thought it was leaves floating! Beautiful light on the pretty birds!
Thanks for the info Steve! I'll take a look...
